Recent policy changes regarding Able Seaman qualifications have been promulgated by the U.S. Coast Guard. Mariners currently endorsed as Able Seaman, may qualify for the NEW Able Seafarer-Deck (AS-D) endorsement, if they meet the "Guidance issued in USCG Policy Letter CG-CVC No. 12-07 of Oct 11, 2012".
